On Monday, May 16, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. the Crown Point Community Planning Team will be holding its annual general meeting at 92 Ottawa Street North. Expect the usual fun AGM activities like the ratification of the Terms of Reference for 2016 and elections of new executive team members. Your candidates are Sean Hurley and Mia Ferrell for co-chairs, Cynthia Lokker for co-treasurer, and Laura Vandette for co-secretary. But before all of this great decision-making we will have our neighbourhood action plan update during the community conversation at the start of this month’s meeting. Please note that open house tables are postponed until June’s meeting so that adequate discussion can take place around these important agenda items. If you have a chance, please take a few minutes to review the Terms of Reference 2016 document prior to the meeting. The agenda is posted below:
Just a reminder that you can help Crown Point fundraise for small grants and other cool projects to benefit your neighbourhood by ordering a rainbarrel. Get your rainbarrel order in soon as time is running out; Sunday, May 15 is the last day to place your order. Garden Day is coming up fast on May 28, 2016 which is when rainbarrels will be available for pick up in the parking lot at 92 Ottawa Street North. Garden Day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is being organized by the Crown Point Garden Club. Plant sale and city compost pick-up are also features of this great event. Meet your neighbours who love to garden, learn a thing or two about what you are planting and get your city compost right in the neighbourhood!
Nominations for a role on the executive team of the Crown Point Community Planning Team are due by April’s meeting which is happening Monday, April 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. Any resident with a passion for their neighbourhood can be nominated. You can even nominate yourself! We are looking to fill the roles of co-chair, co-treasurer and co-secretary. More information about each role and the level of commitment can be found in the CPCPT Terms of Reference 2015 .pdf
Check out the open house at the start of the meeting, meet our service providers and your neighbours leading action teams. Here is your opportunity to chat one-on-one and learn about some great upcoming events like Jane’s Walks and Garden Day.
Don’t forget to order your rainbarrel and support the planning team’s first fundraising effort.
The community conversation portion of April’s meeting will be devoted to the Neighbourhood Action Plan update. What would you like to see happen in your neighbourhood? What don’t you want to see? What actions would you like to continue seeing? Join the conversation at the next meeting and have your say!
The March meeting minutes are now available too, check them out below. See you next Monday!
Celebrate the change in seasons at the next planning team meeting on Monday, March 21, 6:30 p.m. at 92 Ottawa St N where we spring into a new meeting format.
Enjoy casual conversations with action teams and service providers from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Here you can learn about the upcoming events and discover the opportunities in your neighbourhood.
From 7 to 7:30, the administrative update will be the focus, with monthly reports outlining the planning team financials, current small grants, and community developer corner.
After a short break, look forward to an in-depth community conversation about a topic relevant to the neighbourhood. This month’s topic is a timely presentation and conversation with Hamilton LRT, a resident-led advocacy group, about how LRT might impact Crown Point.
For more meeting details, check out the agenda below and be sure to review the minutes from February’s meeting.
From February 14th – 23rd 2016, Hamilon’s first annual DeLight festival will brighten up winter, and you can be part of it!
Billed as a participatory art event, a group of Crown Point residents is working together to create an annual outdoor LED light display just to put a smile on peoples’ faces and this year’s theme is celebrating the Chinese Community. The lantern festival is happening on the Pipeline Trail, between Province & Graham Streets. Hundreds of red Chinese lanterns will be installed so you, your friends and family can walk under their lights and enjoy an unforgettable, magical experience!
There is still time to sponsor a lantern by visiting delightfest.ca and clicking the Sponsor a Lantern button. You can even leave a dedication in memory of someone or towards a cause that is close to your heart.
Crown Point residents are also welcome to join the lantern assembling parties happening this weekend. Drop in to the parties on either Friday, February 5th from 6:30 – 9 pm, Saturday, February 6th and Sunday, February 7th, 10 am – 3 pm at 1365A Main St East and meet the friendly neighbours making DeLight happen in your neighbourhood.
If you missed the planning team meeting in January, catch up on the minutes below. Our February meeting agenda is also available for your winter reading pleasure. We are looking forward to announcing some exciting changes to our meeting format and to share information and opportunities within our neighbourhood.
